One of the top graduating High School players in Calgary will remain in town for his post-secondary football career.

Versatile Ted Kubongo, a graduate of the Notre Dame Pride, that were Calgary and Provincial 4A Finalists in 2015, has signed a Canadian Inter university Sport Letter of Intent to attend the University of Calgary this coming fall. Kubongo was a starting member on the Pride’s Calgary and Provincial 4A Championship team in 2014.  He played both ways in his senior year for Coach Dave Duluzio’s team earning Notre Dame’s Most Valuable Player and being named Calgary High School all-star this past year. He was an all-star in the Calgary Midget football league playing for the Hilltoppers organization.

The 6’, 185 lbs Kabongo played running back for the Pride this past year, but will move the across the line and play defensive back for the Dinos.

“Ted has great athleticism and is a physical player that likes to hit,” states University of Calgary Head Coach Wayne Harris, who also stated Kubongo “was one of the best High School players in Calgary in 2015.”

Kubongo brings an impressive list of achievements during his High School career. He was a member of Team Canada International U19 team that participated in the International Bowl in Texas this past January. This coming July, he will join fellow University of Calgary recruit, Kelton Bailey  as one of the two Calgary graduating High School seniors that will participate in the Montana East West High School Shrine game in July in Butte, Montana. Kubongo also has been selected to play for Canada at the World U19 Championships in China later this summer. He was also named a CFC Top 100 player in 2015.

“I chose to play at Calgary because it is close to home where my family is and the U of C has a great program,” stated Kubongo who was recruited by numerous Canadian universities including Saskatchewan, UBC, Carleton, Manitoba and York.

Kubongo will join High School teammate, offensive lineman Daniel Townsend on the Dinos and plans on studying Economics.
