Is romance on the menu? Scarlett Johansson plays footsie with Sean Penn over lunch

New romance: Scarlett Johansson was spotted getting cozy with Sean Penn at a Los Angeles restaurant on Tuesday afternoon


They have previously denied any romantic involvement but Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn certainly looked rather cosy during an outing this week.

The 26-year-old Iron Man 2 star and Oscar winner Sean, 50, were spotted having lunch together on Tuesday at Cuban restaurant Versailles in Los Angeles.

As the pair ate, Scarlett placed on of her feet on Sean's lap - a move which suggests the pair may be better acquainted than they have let on.


Dressed casually in jeans and a striped T-shirt, Scarlett looked relaxed and happy as she and Sean laughed and chatted throughout the meal.

And yesterday the pair jetted off to Mexico together for a whistle stop visit.

They left on a private jet from Van Nuys airport Tuesday morning, according to America's People magazine, and were also seen having dinner in Cabo San Lucas.

An onlooker told gossip blogger Perez Hilton that they were at the exclusive Las Ventanas resort.'

According to his webiste: 'They were last seen at the resort's spa bar, drinking margaritas, talking, smoking and nibbling on ceviche. When they finished, they left quietly and casually, but also hand in hand.'

They returned to Los Angeles on Wednesday morning.

The pair were first linked back in January, just weeks after Scarlett announced her divorce from her husband of two years, actor Ryan Reynolds.

The are said to have met at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood while Scarlett was filming We Bought A Zoo, her new movie alongside Matt Damon.

'Their first hook-up was in Scarlett's bungalow,' an insider told US magazine at the time.

'Scarlett first reached out to Sean when she was planning to visit Haiti with Oxfam,' says the source. 'She knew Sean was living there in a tent and turned to him for advice.'

But Scarlett's representative denied any romance saying the pair have been 'friends for years.'

Sean, who counts Madonna as an ex-wife, split from his most recent wife of 14 years, actress Robin Wright Penn, last August.
